It has been reported that over 50% of the rural Cambodian population does not have access to clean water. These has caused children vulnerable to disease which is the second leading cause of death for children below 5, diarrhea. It is worrying to discover the fact that 40% of primary schools and 35% of medical centres throughout the country does not have access to safe water and sanitation. Water has always been one of mankind’s basic necessities for survival, but contrary to what most urbanites think, a reliable supply of clean water isn’t always available at the turn of the tap for many.
In order to combat water shortages and reduce associated diseases, Muslim Aid Malaysia embarked on a provision of clean water by constructing water wells and water storage tanks. The aim is to ensure that development work leads to tangible and sustained improvements in the lives of people in developing countries. Since 2016, over 70 wells have been constructed in remote villages of Prey Pis, Somprong and Tropiang Chorol In the Tralach district, serving a population of over 5,000 people.
