“ROADMAP TO RIGHTS : Refugee Protection and Human Rights in ASEAN”

REGIONAL ADVOCACY 4 MYANMAR (RA4M)

In May 2025, Muslim Aid Malaysia co-organised a regional workshop on refugee rights with Beyond Borders Malaysia, focusing on the Rohingya crisis. Joined by regional partners such as APHR, APRRN, AJAR, and others, the workshop produced a bold Regional Roadmap for refugee protection in Southeast Asia. A joint open letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, ASEAN 2025 Chair, called for key reforms including an ASEAN Special Committee on Refugees, access to education for refugee children, and a regional framework to address sexual violence in conflict. Supported by 40 civil society groups, the roadmap was later presented at the ASEAN Civil Society Forum. Under Interim CEO Wan Mimi Zarina Wan Azmin, Muslim Aid Malaysia is advancing its regional leadership through forming coalitions, developing cross-border strategies, and securing sustainable funding—strengthening its role as Secretariat for Regional Advocacy for Myanmar and championing inclusive, rights-based solutions for displaced communities across ASEAN.
